Friends of Lake Neepaulin Offer College Scholarship
Friends of Lake Neepaulin (FOLN) is offering a $500 Scholarship to a 2008 high school graduate who has been accepted and plans to attend a 2-year or 4-year college in September, 2008.  The award will be based on the individual’s academic performance and community involvement/social service. Preference is given to FOLN members, residents of the Lake Neepaulin community, and residents of Wantage Township.  Application deadline is May 15, 2008.

Drain PaintingNo Dumping — Drains to Lake
On Saturday, April 19, twelve youths from Lake Neepaulin labeled 40 storm drains leading to the lake with the statement, "No Dumping — Drains to Lake." This project was conducted in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22. It is the first of several storm drain labeling sessions to be conducted by Lake Neepaulin youth during the coming months. The project was organized and sponsored by the Friends of Lake Neepaulin and the Walkill River Watershed Management Group. Lusscroft cleanup
Work Day at Lusscroft Farm.

More than 40 volunteers from the NJD Society of American Foresters, NJ State Park employees, NJ Forest Service employees and volunteers, Boy Scouts and H&AA volunteers participated in a work day at Lusscroft Farm on April 12. The volunteers cleared trials, felled selected trees, split and stacked firewood and created brushpile habitat for birds and wildlife. The two sugar maple stands at Lusscroft are being managed by the NJDSAF with the potential for maple syrup production as early as 2009. Wantage Dog Park Named One of Best Dog Parks in U.S.

In the latest issue (May 2008) of Dog Fancy magazine, the Wantage Dog Park was named one of the top ten dog parks in the nation. Congratulations to Stu Baker and the Dog Park Users group for this national recognition!

Wantage clean communities ROADSIDE CLEAN-UPS

Wantage Township's Clean Communities Program sponsors litter clean-ups throughout the year. If your social, church, school, or community group would like to clean a roadway, contact Ken Karnas at 973 875-5316. Bags, gloves, and safety vests are provided. A stipend is given to each group completing a roadside cleanup.

High Point Soccer Club Fall Season Registration– May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon and on May 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.at the Sussex Elks Club Open to children ages 4 – 14 in the HPRS district. Just 4 Fun Soccer – a recreational soccer program for special needs individuals. Special Events Day at High Point State Park – May 10. Come and show you support High Point State Park! Various activities are scheduled by the Friends of High Point State Park to be enjoyed by everyone. Bring your “camp” chair, beach blanket, picnic basket, and water to drink. Spend the day appreciating some of the many things that High Point State Park has to offer. In case of rain, some events will be held in the interpretative center. Please stay for a press conference sponsored by the Sierra Club. It will follow the afternoon events, and will be held at the base of the monument. Click here for flier with schedule of events.

FOLN Yard and Bake SaleRESCHEDULED – Due to last Saturday's inclement weather, FOLN has rescheduled its Yard and Bake Sale for this Saturday, May 10th at the Beach, 8a.m. to 2p.m. If you want to sell your goods at the beach, you can purchase a spot at the beach for $20. Bakers Needed: In conjunction with the Yard Sale, FOLN will also hold a bake sale at the beach. We would greatly appreciate any donation of baked goods—cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, muffins, etc.— for the bake sale. Arrange for a Friday evening pick-up or drop off bake goods at beach before 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Lusscroft Farm Trails Reopening Celebration – Join the Heritage & Agriculture Association as they celebrate the reopening of the trail system located at Lusscroft Farm on Saturday May 17, starting at 10 a.m. The schedule for the day is:
     10:00 a.m. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony followed by a Reception with light refreshments
     10:30 a.m. Hike for casual/novice hikers
     11:30 a.m. Hike for intermediate hikers
       1:00 p.m. Hike for experienced hikers

During each of the hikes, Kevin Mitchell will share historical information about the trail system and discuss the various habitats encountered along the trails. Hikers should wear appropriate shoes and clothing for hiking. For additional information about the reopening of the Lusscroft Trail System or about the Lusscroft site, visit www.lusscroftfarm.com.

DAR Museum to Open for Season – On Saturday May 17, 2008 the DAR museum will open for the season. The museum is the grand home of the Rev. Elias VanBunshooten and dates back to the late 1700s. The museum features many original family pieces from the VanBunschooten/ Cooper families. The lovely Dutch colonial home and the outbuildings will all be open for viewing and touring. Also housed in the museum is a local genealogy library. The Chinkchewunska Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution operates the museum. It is open to the public on Thursdays and Saturdays between 1 and 4 p.m. from May 17 through October 15.  Donation is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens over 55 on Thursdays, and $1 for children. The museum is located at 1097, Route 23 North in Wantage Township. School and other groups are asked to please call ahead for an appointment. Contact 875-4610 for directions and appointments.

Benefit Dinner – A benefit dinner will be held in the honor of Shanna Coursen On June 7 at 5 p.m. at the Sussex Fire House. Shanna is a 17 year-old girl who has a one year old boy. On March 24 she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease, a form of lymph node cancer. She is currently undergoing Chemo therphy treatment at Morristown Hospital.
