MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON JUNE 29, 2005

CALL TO ORDER
Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL
Present: Duane Armstrong, Don Henry, Geri Stella, Bill Hardy
Absent: Sue Vanden Heuvel, Paul Pfeil, Greg Williams


OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGS ACT COMPLIANCE
Mr. Armstrong stated, "This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act, P.L. 1975, Ch. 231. It has been properly advertised and certified ".

This month’s meeting opened by awarding the winners of the 2004 and 2005 Talent Contest their certificates. After a brief ceremony the adult winners of this years contest performed their song. Jean Perlee was in attendance to take pictures. The winners will perform at the New Jersey State Fair on August 13, 2005.

REPORTS

Bill announced that the Sussex Wantage Fishing Contest at McCoy’s Corner went well.

Movies in the Park: Bill received two contracts from Any Excuse for a Party, one for July 16, 2005 the second for August 20, 2005. The total cost per movie is $695.00, with Any Excuse for a Party requiring a $100.00 deposit. After Jim reviews the contract he will disperse the money.

Duane is on vacation that week but offered to help Bill with the electricity. Duane suggested that Bill borrow a generator from the Beemerville Fire Department to help light the field. The light generator has a special hitch which poses a towing problem. Don checked the softball schedule and there is no conflict. Bill will bring his truck and garbage bags. Bill asked the Commission to ponder some movies; The Harry Potter Series, Scooby Doo and Schrek II, and respond by e-mail within a day or two. Bill Hardy made a motion that Jim approve the contract and send back the deposit, Don Henry seconded the motion. Upon roll call, Ayes: Henry, Armstrong, Stella Nays: None Absent: Vanden Heuvel, Pfeil, Williams.

Lakeland Bus Trip: Bill updated the Commission on scheduling a trip planned for the fall to either the Turtle Back Zoo or The Bronx Zoo.

OLD BUSINESS


5K Run at Woodbourne Park: Creighton McBride sent an updated memorandum to the meeting with information on where he stands right now and also a sample application. The race is scheduled for Saturday 9/24/05 with no rain date. Fast Finishes which will time the race is unable to schedule a rain date. The company charges a fee of $75.00 and then $1.50 per runner. A pre-registration fee of $5.00 by 9/20 and $8.00 the day of the race was suggested. General consensus was for all parking to be within the park. Duane stated there was additional parking in the field in the back if needed. Duane also suggested gates to close at a certain time and no vehicles to be admitted after that time. Bill Hardy recommend asking the rescue squad, Duane suggested asking Wantage and Sussex so as not to offend anyone. Duane offered that the first aid squad could charge for water to non participants. Don Henry said his business would donate $100.00. It was suggested he sponsor a water station, he can park his truck behind it to advertise that fact. Joe Hayes said he will let soccer know not to schedule home games before 11:00 on 9/24/05.

Green Acres: Duane stated that the funding was approved and work should begin in the fall of 2006.

NEW BUSINESS
Little League use of Woodbourne fields 1 & 2 in the fall. Don Henry checked the softball schedule and they are not using the field this fall. General concern was expressed over the mounds, who would place them and remove them? Bill reminded the commission that they cannot use the field on movie nights. After reading the notice from John DeCarlo, Duane requested more specifics on dates before a decision will be made.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION
Joe Hayes requested permission from the Recreation Commission to close field #3 at Woodbourne Park for the fall season to rest and reseed it. He also requested permission to use temporary lighting on the back field from 5:00 to 8:00 in the fall. The commission did not see any problems with his requests.

A motion was made by Geri Stella and seconded by Don Henry.
Ayes: Hardy, Henry, Armstrong Nays: None Absent: Vanden Huevel, Pfeil, Williams.
