| Township of Wantage, March
14, 2005: The Land Use Board of Wantage Township shall hold a public hearing
on March 22, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wantage Municipal Building, located
at 888 Route 23 in Wantage. The purpose of the public hearing will be
to present details of a proposed Stormwater Management Plan as a necessary
element of the Wantage Township Master Plan, and hear input from the members
of the public with respect to the proposed plan.
“This plan comes about from an on-going process that started at
the Federal level of government, continued to the State level of government,
and now is reaching the local level of government” says Wantage
Township Administrator Jim Doherty. “This is a guidance document,
required by the State of New Jersey, that will help towns protect waterways
from pollution.”
As explained in the proposed Wantage Township Stormwater Management Plan,
the United States Environmental Protection Agency adopted certain rules
in December of 1999, aimed at addressing pollutants entering water from
storm drainage systems in the United States. From those federal rules,
the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection adopted the New
Jersey Municipal Stormwater Regulation Program, designed to deal with
pollutants in the State of New Jersey.
“The first step initiated by the State's Program is to develop and
institute a Municipal Stormwater Management Plan” says Harold Pellow,
the Wantage Township Engineer. Pellow says that the proposed Stormwater
Management Plan for Wantage contains all of the elements required by the
State of New Jersey for dealing with groundwater recharge, Stormwater
quality, and impacts on Stormwater quality from major developments.
A full copy of the proposed plan is on file in the Wantage Township Municipal
Building, 888 Route 23 in Wantage, and may be viewed by the public during
regular business hours 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
