Minutes of Wantage Township Recreation Commission

March 26, 2008

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON MARCH 26, 2008.

CALL TO ORDER:
Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL:
Present:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.
Absent:  Lorraine Card (alternate #1).

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE
Mr. Armstrong stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. 
It has been properly advertised and certified”.

NEW BUSINESS

Applications for use of Township facilities:

Mrs. Baig made the motion to approve Sussex Wantage Little League:

Woodbourne Park field #4

Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.
Ayes:  Baig, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  None.  Absent:  Card.

Mrs. Baig made the motion to approve High Point Travel Baseball

Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Baig, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  None.  Absent:  Card.

High Point Traveling Baseball requested a field for the weekend of March 29th & 30th.  Mr. Armstrong explained to everyone in attendance the fields are closed until April 1st possibly April 15th. 

Paul Pfeil from High Point Football attended the meeting with a request to install temporary lights for this fall's football season.  He is asking for Friday and Saturday nights with approval for Monday and/or Thursday in case of a rain makeup.  Mr. Pfeil also requested permission to bring in a food trailer.  Mr. Pfeil asked the Commission if prior permission to leave an equipment trailer at the park during the season still stood.  Mr. Armstrong said yes, the agreement still stands.

OLD BUSINESS

Veterans Memorial Field

Mr. Williams presented the Recreation Commission with a model of the monument he designed for Veterans Memorial Park.  Representatives from the Wantage American Legion were in attendance to view the memorial.  General discussion took place on different ways to fund raise for the monument.  Mrs. Feoranzo had with her a sample paver that could be engraved and sold.  Other types of fund raising were also discussed; car shows, raffles, and steak dinners.

Mr. Armstrong made a motion to approve the design for the Veterans Memorial Monument.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Baig, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  None.  Absent:  Card.

Mrs. Feoranzo updated the Commission on the Spring Fling scheduled for April 12th at the Beemerville Firehouse.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve the minutes of March 6, 2008.  Mrs. Baig seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Williams, Mr. Armstrong. Nays:  None.  Absent:  Lorraine Card (alternate #1).

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION:

Mr. Kevin Schwander questioned the April 15th field usage date.  Mr. Armstrong explained it is a joint decision between the DPW, Jim Doherty and the Recreation Commission.  Mr. Schwander said he will visit the municipal building and discuss the issue with both Bob Wagner and Jim Doherty.

Mr. Quitadamo of Little League requested permission to install one possibly two portable score boards at Veterans Memorial Field.  Little League would install one and one half inch poles outside of third base.  The boards are 30” X 16” battery operated with a remote control.

A motion was made by Mrs. Baig and seconded by Mrs. Feoranzo.
Ayes: Baig, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays: None. Absent:Lorraine Card (alternate #1).
