OLD BUSINESS

Dog Park
Mr. Baker brought the commission up to date on what has been happening at the Wantage Dog Park.
  • The dog park was rated one of the top ten dog parks in the country by Dog Fancy Magazine.
  • A fund raising dinner at Kroghs Restaurant in Sparta is planned for June 4th with 10% of the profit going to the dog park.
  • A court date for a recent dog bite at the park is scheduled for June 6, 2008.
  • A visitor was issued a summons for not following the rules; too many dogs and allowing dogs to run unleashed in the parking lot. The person pleaded not guilty and will go to trial.
  • A letter of complaint regarding a resident not watching his dogs at the dog park resulted in an apology from the resident and he now is closely watching his dogs.

Mr. Baker requested permission from the commission to install a sign at the back gate stating it is an emergency exit only and dogs must be leashed beyond this point. Mr. Baker is not comfortable locking the gate because the park is without access to water except for a stream beyond the gate. Mr. Baker feels this stream could be lifesaving during the summer if a dog becomes overheated. The commission agreed to the sign.

Veterans Memorial Field

The commission decided that Woodbourne Park is a better location for the Memorial. Mr. Armstrong made a motion to change the location to Woodbourne Park. Mrs. Cary seconded the motion. Yes: carried. Nays: None. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo.

The name for the Lott Road Park will be determined by a contest in September. The winner of the contest will get to light the Christmas Tree.

A motion to change the name to Woodbourne Veterans Memorial Park was made by Mrs. Card, seconded by Mr. Williams. Ayes: Carried. Nays: None. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo.

Mr. Williams notified the commission of the Veterans Memorial e-mail address:
wantagetwpveteransmemorial@gmail.com

Mr. Williams also feels it is necessary to set a deadline for purchasing pavers. Many people have promised but haven’t come through with the money. The deadline will be November 11, 2008, Veterans Day.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

Mr. Armstrong made the motion to approve the minutes of March 26, 2008. Mr. Williams seconded the motion. Ayes: Mrs. Card, Mr. Armstrong. Nays: None. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo. Abstain: Mrs. Cary, Mrs. Card.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION:

Mr. Pfeil from High Point Football arrived late and wanted to make sure the field time was approved. Mr. Pfeil discussed with the Commission the possibility of building a new football field at Woodbourne Park with funds from High Point Football. Mrs. McBride suggested speaking with Mr. Doherty about available land. Mr. Pfeil also discussed the possibility of having a bonfire at Woodbourne Park. The Commission did not have a problem with it but said to make sure the proper permits are secured.

ADJOURNMENT:

A motion was made by Mrs. Card and seconded by Mr. Armstrong to adjourn.
Ayes: Card, Cary, Williams, Armstrong. Nays: None Absent: Baig, Feoranzo.

Respectfully submitted,
Jeanne McBride, Board Secretary
