Route 23 Construction Project

New Jersey Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Operations Advance Traffic Impact Notice

(DPM Project) 7 Day Notice: NEW PROJECT

Nature of Work: The overall purpose of the project is to replace Structure No. 1904-153, which carries Route 23 over a branch of the Wallkill River, a single span bridge built in 1926. The replacement structure is a precast, three-sided rigid frame with a proposed cross section that includes a 12-foot wide travel lane and an 8-foot wide shoulder in each direction along with a sidewalk on the west side of the bridge. The project will also include the replacement of the existing guide rail and end treatments in the southeast, northeast and northwest quadrants of the structure to meet current standards, full depth pavement reconstruction, milling and resurfacing.

Route/Direction/MP: Route 23 / NB & SB / MP 37.47 to 37.70

Municipality/County: Township of Wantage / Sussex County

Anticipated Traffic Impacts: The initial impacts for utility work will include traffic cones and certified flaggers to be used to move traffic around utility crews.

Description of New Traffic Pattern: No new pattern initially during utility work.

Proposed Start Date of New Project: Monday June 12, 2017

UPDATE NOVEMBER 6, 2017: Route 23 work is to begin shortly. Final NJDOT announcement is expected this week.
