Minutes of Mayor and Council
February 06, 2003 — MINUTES OF THE BUDGET WORK SESSION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMITTEE OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE

Mayor Jeff Parrott called the meeting to order, and requested the Clerk to call the roll. Upon roll call, the following members of the governing body were present:
Mayor Parrott, Committee members Sytsema, De Boer.
Also present: Administrator Clerk Jim Doherty.
The following members were absent: None.

Mayor Parrott led the assembly in the Salute to the Flag.
Mayor Parrott stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act, Public Laws 1975, Chapter 231. It has been properly noticed and posted to the public, and certified by the Clerk."

The governing body gave further consideration to the status of budget preparation for calendar year 2003.

Staffing For The Construction Department
Construction Official Ed Vanderberg offered a presentation in support of his request for additional staffing and additional salary, for the Construction Department.

General discussion turned to the staffing pattern prior to the interlocal services arrangement, budgeting history for the department, current development activity within the Township, and projections for future workload of the department.

The members of the governing body agreed to preserve the previously-planned budget allocation of enough money to cover an additional part-time inspector for the department for a total not to exceed 400 hours of work in calendar year 2003, at a rate of $25 per hour. No further commitment for additional staffing or salary was made at this time.

Closed Executive Session
Mr. Sytsema moved to enter into closed executive session at this time, to discuss matters of potential litigation involving the Fire Department, and on-going negotiations with the Road Department. Mr. De Boer seconded the motion. Upon roll call,

After meeting in closed session, Mr. Sytsema moved to return to open session and continue with the regular order of business. Mr. De Boer seconded the motion.

At this time, Mayor Parrott opened the meeting to the public. There being no one present at this time wishing to address the governing body, Mayor Parrott closed the meeting to the public.
There being no other items for the consideration of the governing body at this time, Mr. Sytsema moved to adjourn the meeting. Mr. De Boer seconded the motion.
