WANTAGE TOWNSHIP
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TRAFFIC CHAPTER OF THE
GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE
Ordinance No. 2003-09
WHEREAS, the Wantage Township Engineer
has recommended that the Wantage Township Traffic Ordinance be amended
to provide for a speed limit of 35 mph along Sherman Ridge Road, and
that Sherman Ridge Road be designated as a through street; and,
WHEREAS, the Township Engineer has also provided a certification of
approval of the speed limit and sign designations in the interest of
safety. The Engineer has also certified that the proposed speed limit
and signage comply with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
for Streets and Highways as adopted by the New Jersey Commissioner of
Transportation, as required by N.J.S.A. 39:4-8, and
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 39:4-8 authorizes the amendment to the Township Traffic
Code subject to final approval by the New Jersey Department of Transportation,
and
WHEREAS, the Wantage Township Committee believes it is in the best interests
of the Township to adopt this revision to the Traffic Ordinance.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED by the Township Committee of the Township
of Wantage, that the following traffic control regulations are adopted
for Sherman Ridge Road:
Section 1. Speed Limits.
Section 2. Through Streets.
Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 39:4-140, the streets or parts
of streets described are hereby designated as through streets. Stop
Signs shall be installed on the near right side of each intersecting
roadway.
Section 3. Regulatory and warning signs, conforming to the current
Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways,
shall be erected and maintained to affect the above designated speed
limit(s).
Section 4. In accordance with N.J.S.A. 39:4-8b, a certified copy of
this Ordinance shall be transmitted by the Township Clerk to the Commissioner
of the Department of Transportation within 30 days of adoption along
with a copy of the certification and statement of the reasons for the
Engineer’s decision.
Section 5. Should any section, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase
of this Ordinance be declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason
by any Court of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be deemed
severable and the remaining portions of this Ordinance shall remain
in full force and effect.
Section 6. All ordinances or parts of ordinances or resolutions that
are inconsistent with the provisions of this Ordinance are repealed
to the extent of such inconsistency.
Section 7. This Ordinance will take effect upon approval by the State
of New Jersey Commission of Transportation pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-8b.

NOTICE is given that this ordinance amendment was introduced and passed
upon first reading at a meeting of the Mayor and Township Committee
of the Township of Wantage, in the County of Sussex, New Jersey, held
on June 26,, 2003. It will be further considered for final passage with
the proposed ordinance after public hearing at a meeting of the Mayor
and Township Committee to be held in the Wantage Township Municipal
Building, 888 Route 23, Wantage, New Jersey 07461, on July 10, 2003,
at 8:00 o'clock P.M., and copies of the ordinance will be made available
at the Clerk's office in the Municipal Building to members of the general
public.
