WANTAGE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF HEALTH — MINUTES OF MEETING — FEBRUARY
8, 2006
The Wantage Township Board of Health held its meeting Wednesday, February
8, 2006 at the Wantage Township Municipal Building, 888 State Route 23
South, Wantage, New Jersey at 7:30 p.m.
Members present: Mr. Joseph Greenaway, Mrs. Susan Floyd and Mr. Dan Pelt.
Also present was Mr. Michael Plaza, Sussex County Sanitarian and Mrs.
Jeanne McBride, Secretary. Absent: Mrs. Gloria Li Trenta, Dr. A Braunwell
Jr.
Mr. Greenaway made the following statement. “This meeting is being
held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act,
Public Laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”.
MINUTES
On motion by Sue Floyd, seconded by Joe Greenaway, the minutes of the
meeting of January 11, 2005 were approved as presented and ordered filed.
Roll call: Mr. Greenaway, Mrs. Floyd yes. CARRIED Mr. Pelt Abstain. Mrs.
Li Trenta, Dr. Braunwell Absent.

DISCUSSION OF REPORTS
Mr. Plaza reported the following:
Soil Logs: Twenty lots on route 284 and Old 84.
Three lots on Lewisburg Road.
A resident on Snover Road called to complain his neighbor’s septic
was malfunctioning. Dye was put in the pump tank, it was determined it
was not septic but groundwater. A recommendation was made to put an elbow
on a French drain to divert water away from the neighbor’s property.
There was a complaint of contaminated soil at Route 565 & McCoy’s
Corner, upon inspection the plastic cover on the soil had blown off. There
is no resolution at this time.
Previously, Dr. Braunwell questioned the soil at the Gas Station on Route
23 & 519, it was determined the DEP does have Romes Coastal as active
pending cleanup permits.
Water samples taken from the Beemerville Firehouse and the Library came
back satisfactory.
A letter was sent to the Beemerville Firehouse re: smoking in food preparation
areas, advising if persons are found to be smoking in areas stated, a
summons will be issued requiring appearances before the Magistrate for
a collection of a penalty as prescribed by law.
DISCUSSION OF CORRESPONDENCE
General Discussion took place regarding the new No Smoking Law.
The Church of Good Shepherd received a permit to install a ultra-violet
light disinfection unit.
NEW BUSINESS
A call was placed to Dr. Hallam Smith to choose a date for the spring
rabies clinic.
The Wantage building department has been handling the well line inspections
for Wantage Township. As of March 1, 2006 the Sussex County Health Department
will be doing the inspection. Questions arose regarding re-drilled wells,
owners are not required
-3-to test the water. It is up to the individual to test the well. Mr.
Plaza stated a letter would be drafted and attached to the well permit
when it is issued advising the homeowner to get the well tested.

There being no public present, on motion by Mrs. Floyd seconded by Mr.
Pelt the meeting was adjourned. Roll call: Mrs. Floyd, Mr. Pelt, Mr. Greenaway.
