October 25 , 2006

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON OCTOBE 25, 2006.

CALL TO ORDER:
Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL:
Present: Christine Feoranzo, Susan Vanden Heuvel, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE
Mrs. Vanden Heuvel stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”.

MINUTES
Mr. Williams made a motion to approve the September 2006 minutes, seconded by Mrs. Vanden Heuvel.  Ayes:  Ms. Feoranzo, Mrs. Vanden Heuvel, Mr. Williams, Mr. Armstrong. 

OLD BUSINESS
Nancy Van Horn, talent show coordinator, and Priscilla Stafford from The Sussex Warren Arts Foundation opened the evening by presenting certificates of appreciation to all of the talent show participants.  It was exciting to see the smiles on their faces as they received their awards.  The Commission expressed a warm, “Congratulations to All”!

Mrs. McBride updated the Commission on the Dog Park.  The fence will be installed by Thanksgiving, the installer said that is the earliest available date.  As soon as the fence is installed the park will be opened.  The Grand Opening will be postponed until the spring when the weather is warmer. 

NEW BUSINESS
Resident Gloria Li Trenta wishes to coordinate a bus trip for the residents to be included in next years’ budget.

The House Decorating Contest is scheduled for December 16, thru December 23rd. There will be five prizes awarded. Louise Macherone agreed to coordinate this event.

The Tree Lighting is scheduled for December 1, 2006.  Mr. Williams discussed possible a theme for the essay; ‘One person I would like to spend the holiday dinner with, who and why’.  Beth Grinkovich was in attendance to receive an award for the talent show suggested ‘The true meaning of the holiday season’.

There was talk among the Commission of moving the lights to the smaller tree at the Wantage School.  Another idea suggested was to install colored flood lights to reflect up into the tree.  Mr. Williams suggested the essay winners light the tree.

The Beemerville firehouse is booked for April 21, 2006 for the Spring Fling.

REPORTS
Mrs. Vanden Heuvel reminded the Commission to order a new liner for the skating rink.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION
Resident Gail Grinkovich expressed concern over the sale of the Lake Neepaulin Swimming Pool. The Commission advised her to bring it to the attention of the Mayor and Committee.

Residents Evelyn Baig and Louise Macherone both said they wished to join the Recreation Commission as new members. The Commission welcomed both. 

ADJOURNMENT  
A motion was made by Mrs. Feoranzo and seconded by Mr. Armstrong to adjourn the meeting. Ayes: Feoranzo, Vanden Heuvel, Williams, Armstrong. Nays: None.
