MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON APRIL 25, 2007.

CALL TO ORDER:
Board Vice President Greg Williams called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL:
Present:  Christine Feoranzo, Susan Vanden Heuvel, Greg Williams, Lorraine Card (alternate #1).
Absent:Evelyn Baig, Louise Macherone, Duane Armstrong.

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE
Mr. Williams stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”.

NEW BUSINESS

Applications for use of township facilities:

Mrs. Card made the motion to approve North Jersey Thunder Girls Softball use of Woodbourne Park Field #1, Sundays May 20, 27, June 3, 17 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.On Sunday June 10, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.Mrs. Vanden Heuvel seconded the motion.Ayes:Card, Feoranzo, Vanden Heuvel, Williams.Nays:None.Absent:Baig, Macherone, Armstrong.

Sussex County Underground Disc request for field use is tabled because no one from Underground Disc was in attendance.

Mrs. Vanden Heuvel made the motion to approve $450.00 for the fishing contest, with Sussex Borough, at Stantons Pond. Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion. Ayes: Card, Feoranzo, Vanden Heuvel, Williams. Nays:None. Absent:Baig, Macherone, Armstrong.

Miss Wantage, Little Miss, Little Mister

This year’s Little Miss, Little Mister and Miss Wantage Contest is June 9, 2007 at the Sussex Middle School.John Abate is coordinating this event.

Talent Show

The Wantage Township Talent Show is June 5, 2007 at High Point High School.
Nancy Van Horn is coordinating this event.

OLD BUSINESS

Woodbourne Park Phase IV:  

The Commission discussed alternate ways to use the Green Acres fund.The pavilion and bathroom bids came in too high.The Commission discussed an additional soccer field.Joe Hayes and Bethann MacGregor from High Point soccer attended the meeting they claim they would rather have irrigation instead of another field. Mr. Williams suggested the Township look into the price of irrigation. Mrs. Card made a motion to go out for bid; a basketball court, well pump and accessories, an access drive and a 30 car parking lot, Mr. Williams seconded the motion. Ayes:Card, Feoranzo, Vanden Heuvel, Williams. Nays:None. Absent:Baig, Macherone, Armstrong.

Dog Park

Mr. Williams made a motion to approve 20 new parking spaces at the dog park.  Mrs. Vanden Heuvel seconded the motion. Ayes:Card, Feoranzo, Vanden Heuvel, Williams. Nays:None. Absent:Baig, Macherone, Armstrong.

Spring Fling

General discussion took place updating the Commission on the Spring Fling that took place on April 21st at the Beemerville Firehouse. Mrs. Vanden Heuvel headed the chair for the event and wanted to extend a special thanks to Chris Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Louise Macherone, Duane & Karen Armstrong for putting up with her early morning meetings and all their help in decorating the hall. The Spring Fling raised $1300.00 for the Schneider family.

DISCUSSION:

Mrs. Vanden Heuvel discussed the possibility of having an event in the park this summer possibily a wine and cheese with local bands.Everyone on the Commission liked the idea.

Mr. Williams is going to look into the price of LED lighting for the Christmas Tree.LED lighting uses 1/3 the wattage of standard lighting.

Mrs. Vanden Heuvel made the motion to approve the minutes of March 28, 2007. Mrs. Card seconded the motion. Ayes: Mrs. Card, Mrs. Feoranzo, Mrs. Vanden Heuvel. Abstain: Mr. Williams. Nays: none. Absent:Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Macherone, Mr.Armstrong.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION:

None.

A motion was made by Mrs. Vanden Heuvel and seconded by Mr. Armstrong.
