MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON AUGUST 29, 2007.

CALL TO ORDER:
Board Vice President Greg Williams called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL:
Present:  Evelyn Baig went home ill at 7:45 p.m., Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Lorraine Card (alternate #1), Duane Armstrong arrived at 7:30 p.m. Absent:  Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE
Mr. Williams stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. 

It has been properly advertised and certified”.

NEW BUSINESS

 Stu Baker attended the meeting to update the Commission on what has been happening at the dog park.  The park’s newest additions include:  a well, electricity, shed, carpet, exit gate, pavers, flag pole, main sign, driveway & bumpers, and a web site.

Mrs. Card made a motion for the Wantage Recreation Commission to sponsor a Halloween Pet Parade at Woodbourne Park October 21, 2007, field #1 with a rain date of October 28, 2007.  Mrs. Baig seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Baig, Card, Feoranzo, Williams.  Nays:  None.  Absent:  Macherone, Vanden Heuvel, Armstrong.

Mrs. Card made a motion to approve a Wantage Dog Park sign to be placed outside of Woodbourne Park, near the Woodbourne Park sign.  The sign measures 18” X 24”.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Card, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  none.

Applications for use of township facilities:

Mr. Armstrong made the motion for High Point Midget Football’s, use of Woodbourne Park field #7, August 1st – October 31st, Monday – Friday 5:00p.m. – dark, Saturday & Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Excluding Sundays, August 1st – 31st, 5:00 p.m. – dark.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Card, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Baig, Macherone, Vanden Heuvel.

Mr. Armstrong made the motion to approve High Point Traveling Baseball, Veterans Memorial field #2, August 1st – October 31st,  Monday – Friday 5:00p.m. – dark, Saturday & Sunday 9:00a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion. Ayes:  Card, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Baig, Macherone, Vanden Heuvel.

Mr. Williams made the motion to approve Sussex Wantage Little League use of  Veteran’s Memorial Field # 1 Mon., Tues., Wed., Thur., Fri., 4:00 – dark, Field #2 Mon., Wed., Thur., Fri., 4:00 – dark, Saturday Field #1 8:00 – 5:00.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Card, Feoranzo, Williams, Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Baig, Macherone, Vanden Heuvel.  Field use for Woodbourne Park has been tabled until next month because of an incomplete application.

The Commission set the date November 30, 2007 for the Christmas Tree Lighting.  Greg Williams will chair the event.

The Open Space Committee together with the Morris Land Conservancy seeks the input of the Recreation Commission to help create the Wantage Open Space Plan.  Information was handed out to all members.

Mrs. McBride thanked High Point Soccer Club for their generous donation of $2000.00.  The money will be used to offset the cost of the recent improvements at Woodbourne Park.  As of the fall of 2007 the soccer fields will have irrigation.

OLD BUSINESS

The Woodbourne Park 3rd Annual 5K walk/run is set for September 15.

Mr. Williams’ plans to organize a committee to raise funds to erect a monument for the newly named Veteran’s Memorial Park.  Mr. Williams hopes to have the fields dedicated by Veterans Day 2008.

Mr. Armstrong made the motion to approve the minutes of June 27, 2007.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:   Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Williams, Mr. Armstrong.  Abstain:  Mrs. Card. Nays:  none.  Absent:  Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Macherone, Mrs.Vanden Heuvel.

A motion was made by Mrs. Feoranzo and seconded by Mr. Williams.
