June 27, 2007

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON JUNE 27, 2007.

CALL TO ORDER:
Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL:
Present:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.
Absent:  Lorraine Card (alternate #1), Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE
Mr. Williams stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”.

NEW BUSINESS

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve Sussex County Underground Disc, field #7 June 1, 2007 – August 31, 2007  Sundays, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  Mrs. Baig seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mr. Williams made the motion to approve First Touch Soccer School, Woodbourne field #3, July 30th – August 3rd, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Mrs. Baig seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mrs. Baig made the motion to approve High Point Soccer Club, (soccer camp) Woodbourne field #3 Aug. 20th – 24th, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm.  Mr. Williams seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve High Point Soccer Club, Woodbourne fields 3, 5, 6, Mon. – Sun.  9:00 am 8:30 pm.  Lott Road Soccer field, August 1, thru November 30, M-F 4:00 pm – 8:30 pm, Sat & Sun 9:00 am – 8:30 pm., excluding September 15th 7:00 am – 12:00 pm. Mrs. Baig seconded the motion.
Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mrs. Baig made the motion to approve High Point Stars Woodbourne field #2 6/22- 5:30, 6/25 – 6:00, 7/01 – 6:00, 7/07 – 10:00, 7/08 – 6:00, 7/14 – 10:00, 7/16 – 6:00.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.  

Mrs. Baig made the motion to approve High Point Stars Woodbourne field # 1,2,4 for a tournament, August 11th & 12th, 9:00 am – 9:00 pm. Mr. Williams seconded the motion.  Ayes: Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mrs. Baig made the motion to approve Woodbourne Park for exclusive use for the Woodbourne Park 5K September 15, 2007, 7:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mr. Williams made the motion to approve a dog waste disposal system at Woodbourne Park on a trial basis.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams.  Nays:  Duane Armstrong.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

Mr. Armstrong made the motion to dedicate Lott Road Fields to the veterans of our U.S. Armed Services.

  1. The current Lott Road Fields be renamed Veterans Memorial Fields.
  2. The construction of a small monument to symbolize the importance of this dedication.
  3. The construction of a new park entrance sign.
  4. The formation of a Veterans Memorial fields committee that will work with local organizations to raise funds for the commission of a monument and sign for the park.
  5. A ceremony dedicating the park and monument to be schedule for Veterans Day or Memorial Day of 2008.
Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong.  Nays:  none.  Absent:  Lorraine Card, Louise Macherone, Susan Vanden Heuvel.

OLD BUSINESS

Woodbourne Park Phase IV:  

The Commission expressed special thanks to Nancy Van Horn for organizing the Talent Show and to John Abate for organizing the Miss Wantage Contest.

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve the minutes of April 25, 2007.  Mr. Williams seconded the motion.  Ayes:   Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Williams.  Abstain:  Mr. Armstrong, Mrs. Baig. Nays:  none.  Absent:  Mrs. Card, Mrs. Macherone, Mrs.Vanden Heuvel.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION:

Joe Hayes attended the meeting with the new High Point Soccer president Kevin Fenlon.  Mr. Hayes questioned the Woodbourne Park Phase IV irrigation to the soccer fields that was previously discussed at the February recreation meeting.  Mrs. McBride explained that it would be going out to bid, with a bid opening on July 10, 2007.  The Recreation Commission did not believe fields 5, 6, or 7 were included in the bid. Mrs. McBride asked “if soccer were to receive irrigation, would soccer still be interested in contributing $6000.00 towards Woodbourne Park?”  Mr. Hayes said that “yes” soccer would contribute $6000.00 towards the park.

A motion was made by Mrs. Baig and seconded by Mrs. Feoranzo.

Ayes:  Baig,  Feoranzo,  Williams, Armstrong.   Nays:  None.   Absent: Card, Macherone, Vanden Heuvel.
