MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON MARCH 28, 2007.

CALL TO ORDER:
Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL:
Present:  Christine Feoranzo, Susan Vanden Heuvel, Duane Armstrong, Lorraine Card (alternate #1).
Absent:  Evelyn Baig, Louise Macherone, Greg Williams.

OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE
Mr. Armstrong stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231.  It has been properly advertised and certified”.

NEW BUSINESS
Dog Park:  Stu Baker updated the Commission on the dog park; the park monitors are almost completely staffed, the port-a-john has been delivered, the driveway will be installed as soon as it is warm enough to make the macadam and a shade pavilion is in the works.  The Commission thanked Mr. Baker for providing a service the community is enjoying.

Applications for use of township facilities:

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve Boy Scout Troop 97, Eagle Scout Ceremony May 5, 2007 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Beach volleyball court and area next to court to set up 20 x 30 tent.  Rain date May 6, 2007.  Mrs. Card seconded the motion.

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve Temple Shalom of Sussex County Woodbourne Park, Sunday May 20, 2007 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. field #2 instead of field #4.  Mrs. Vanden Heuvel seconded the motion.

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve Sussex Wantage Little League Woodbourne Park field #4, 4/1/07 through 6/30/07 Sundays, 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays 4:00 p.m. until dusk.  Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Mrs. Vanden Heuvel seconded the motion.

Mrs. Feoranzo made the motion to approve the application for use of field #4 at Woodbourne Park by High Point Traveling Baseball 4/1/07 – 6/30/07 Thursdays 4:00 p.m. through dusk, Saturdays, 3:00 p.m. through dusk, Sundays, 12:00 through dusk.  Mr. Armstrong seconded the motion.

Mr. Armstrong made the motion to approve High Point Wildcats Baseball Lott Road field #2, Saturdays 4/1/07 – 6/30/07 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sundays 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 pm, Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.

Roll Call:   Mrs. Card (alternate #1), Mrs. Feoranzo, Mrs. Vanden Heuvel, Mr. Armstrong, Yes, Carried.
Nays:  none.  Absent:  Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Macherone, Mr.Williams. Mrs.Vanden Heuvel.

On behalf of the Recreation Commission, Duane Armstrong sent a letter to the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions supporting the Wantage Township Open Space Advisory Committee in their application for a 2007 Smart Growth Planning Assistance Grant.

Woodbourne Park Phase IV: The bids received for the proposed pavilion came in far more than we have to spend.  The Commission discussed other ways to use the money; possibly a basketball court, soccer/football field and an access road leading to a new parking lot. 

OLD BUSINESS
General discussion took place updating the Commission on the Spring Fling scheduled for April 21st at the Beemerville Firehouse.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Mr. Armstrong made the motion to approve the minutes of February 21, 2007.  Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.  Ayes:  Mrs. Card, Mrs. Feoranzo, Mrs. Vanden Heuvel, Mr. Armstrong. Nays:  none.  Absent:  Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Macherone, Mr.Williams.

OPEN PUBLIC SESSION:
None.

ADJOURNMENT:  
A motion was made by Mrs. Vanden Heuvel and seconded by Mr. Armstrong. Ayes:  Card, Feoranzo, Vanden Heuvel, Armstrong.   Nays:  None.   Absent: Baig, Macherone, Williams.
