OCTOBER 24, 2007 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON OCTOBER 24, 2007. CALL TO ORDER: Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL: Present: Evelyn Baig, Christine Feoranzo, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong. Absent: Louise Macherone, Lorraine Card (alternate #1). OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE Mr. Armstrong stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”. Mr. Williams made a motion change the order of the agenda.Mrs. Baig seconded the motion.Ayes:Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Williams, Mr. Armstrong.Nays:None.Absent:Mrs. Macherone, Mrs. Card. NEW BUSINESS Geri Stella attended the meeting to present her Fitness Program for the 2008 season. Mrs. Baig made a motion to approve Mrs. Stella’s Fitness Program as a Recreation program. Mrs. Feoranzo seconded the motion.Ayes:Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Williams, Mr. Armstrong. Nays: None. Absent:Mrs. Macherone, Mrs.Card. It is with a heavy heart the Recreation Commission accepts the resignation of long time member Susan Vanden Heuvel. The Commission thanks Mrs. Vanden Heuvel for her many years of service. She was instrumental in organizing many events throughout her years; Wantage Day, Spring Flings, Christmas Tree Lightings and many, many more. Mrs. Vanden Heuvel has been an asset to the Commission and will undoubtedly be missed. OLD BUSINESS Wantage Dog Park and the Recreation Commission hosted a Parade of Costumes on Sunday October 21, 2007 at Woodbourne Park.Approximately 25 dogs dressed for the event. Categories such as Best Group, Funniest, and Scariest were awarded prizes. It was another successful event planned by the Dog Park. The Shade Shelter for Woodbourne Park has arrived; assembly of the structure is expected to start soon. The stage that was donated by the Lawrence School will not be disassembled until the weather turns cooler. The Road Department is concerned about possible bees’ nests in the structure. COMMITTEE MEMBER REPORTS: Mr. Williams spoke with Mr. Yaeger from the Wantage School regarding the possible loss of electricity to the Christmas tree. Mr. Wagner from the Road Department will look into the matter. As an emergency alternative to the large tree, the Commission decided a cut tree could be brought to the school which would require fewer lights. Mr. Armstrong recently attended a soccer game in East Hanover, the field had innovative lighting. The lights were powered by a generator enclosed in a shed. The lights were not on poles but located in the ground.Mr. Armstrong is looking into this type of lighting for Woodbourne Park. Mr. Williams asked for money to be included in next year’s recreation budget for the monument and dedication of Veteran’s Memorial Field. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mrs. Feoranzo made a motion to approve the minutes of August 29, 2007. Mr. Williams seconded the motion. Ayes:Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Williams. Nays:None. Abstain: Mrs. Baig, Mr. Armstrong. Absent: Mrs. Macherone, Mrs. Card. Mrs. Feoranzo made a motion to approve the minutes of September 26, 2007. Mrs. Baig seconded the motion. Ayes:Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo, Mr. Armstrong. Nays:None. Abstain: Mr. Williams. Absent: Mrs. Macherone, Mrs. Card . OPEN PUBLIC SESSION: Resident Jackie Lance attended the meeting offering to help at events as need. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Mrs. Feroanzo and seconded by Mrs. Baig.
