WANTAGE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF HEALTH
MINUTES OF REORGANIZATION MEETING
JANUARY 9, 2008

The Wantage Township Board of Health held its REORGANIZATION MEETING Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Wantage Township Municipal Building, 888 State Route 23 South, Wantage, New Jersey at 7:30 p.m.

Members present: Mrs. Susan Floyd, Mrs. Gloria Li Trenta, Mr. Joseph Greenaway. Also present was Mr. Michael Plaza, Sussex County Sanitarian and Mrs. Jeanne McBride, Secretary. Absent: Dr. Arthur H. Braunwell Jr., Mr. Daniel Pelt.

Mr. Greenaway made the following statement. “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act, Public Laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”.

NOMINATIONS

Mr. Greenaway called for nominations for the office of President and Vice President for Wantage Township Board of Health for the Year 2008.

On motion by Mrs. Floyd, seconded by Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Joseph Greenaway was nominated for President for the year 2008.

Roll call: Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Greenaway, yes. CARRIED
Absent: Dr. Braunwell, Mr. Pelt.

On motion by Mr. Greenaway seconded by Mrs. Floyd, Dr. Braunwell was nominated Vice President for the year 2008.

Roll call: Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Greenaway, yes. CARRIED
Absent: Dr. Braunwell, Mr. Pelt.

On motion by Mr. Greenaway seconded by Mrs. Li Trenta, Jeanne McBride was nominated Board Secretary for the Year 2008.

Roll call: Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Greenaway, yes. CARRIED
Absent: Dr. Braunwell, Mr. Pelt.

On motion by Mr. Greenaway seconded by Mrs. Floyd, Christine Von Oesen was nominated Registrar of Vital Statistics for the Year 2008.

Roll call: Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Greenaway, yes. CARRIED
Absent: Dr. Braunwell, Mr. Pelt.

MEETING SCHEDULE FOR THE BOARD OF HEALTH AND NAMING THE OFFICIAL NEWSPAPERS OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH

On motion by Mr. Greenaway, seconded by Mrs. Li Trenta, Board Meetings to be held on the second Wednesday of each month at the Wantage Municipal Building at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the months of July and August when there will be no monthly meeting.

Roll Call: Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Greenaway, yes. CARRIED
Absent: Dr. Braunwell, Mr. Pelt.

On motion by Mr. Greenaway seconded by Mrs. Li Trenta, The New Jersey Herald and the New Jersey Sunday Herald were named the official newspapers for the Wantage Township board of Health.

MINUTES

On motion by Mrs. Floyd, seconded by Mr. Greenaway, the minutes of the meeting of December 12, 2007 were approved as presented and ordered filed.

DISCUSSION OF REPORTS

Mr. Plaza reported the following:
The County Health Department received a call from the DEP hotline from a resident on Sherman Ridge Road that was burning plastic. Upon inspection there was a 275 gallon fuel oil tank, cut on the horizontal, with warm embers. Photos were taken and a citation will be issued for air pollution.

A neighbor complained of garbage on the deck and in the driveway on Fairview Terrace. An inspection revealed garbage on the deck but all of the debris in the driveway was removed. The homeowner has until the end of the week to remove the debris on the deck or they will receive a notice of violation.

A neighbor complained of smoke from an outdoor wood furnace at 149 Mount Salem Road, this is an ongoing dispute with the neighbors. A copy of the report was sent to the DEP. Legislation is in currently in effect to regulate the use of the furnaces.

The owners of 114 Libertyville Road requested a one month extension to fix the septic.
The owners of the home are in the process of selling the home and requested one month to work out the septic details with the buyers. The Health Department approved the extension.

The Double S Diner reopened on New Year’s Eve after renovations from a kitchen fire in November.

The renewal of a well permit on Lott Road led to the discovery of a septic permit that is due to expire on April 3, 2008. The ordinance states one must have a septic permit to receive a well permit. The property contains wetlands and the wetlands permit expires March 2008. A wetlands permit must be issued before the septic permit and a septic permit must be issued before the well permit. If the wetlands permit expires before the renewal is received, the application must start from the beginning.
