SEPTEMBER 10, 2008 WANTAGE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF HEALTH MINUTES OF THE MEETING SEPTEMBER 10, 2008 The Wantage Township Board of Health held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Wantage Township Municipal Building, 888 State Route 23 South, Wantage, New Jersey at 7:30 p.m. Members present: Dr. Arthur Braunwell, Mrs. Gloria Li Trenta, and Mr. Joseph Greenaway. Absent: Mrs. Susan Floyd, Mr. Daniel Pelt. Also present was Jeanne McBride, Secretary and Michael Plaza, Sussex County Chief REHS. Mr. Greenaway made the following statement: “This meeting is being held in compliance with the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act, Public laws of 1975 Chapter 231. It has been properly advertised and certified”. On motion by Dr. Braunwell, seconded by Mrs. LiTrenta, the minutes of June 11, 2008 were approved as presented and ordered filed. Roll call: Dr. Braunwell, Mrs. Li Trenta, Mr. Greenaway, yes, carried. Absent: Mrs. Floyd, Mr. Pelt. Abstain: None. READING OF REPORTS Sussex County Health Department June, July, August 2008 Mike Plaza reported the following: A water sample at the library came back positive for coli form and e-coli. Apparently while landscaping was being done at the library the chlorination system was disconnected. The system has since been reconnected. A water sample at the Lott Road field tested negative. A bat at the residence of 20 Northfield Drive flew at the animal control officer. The bat tested negative for rabies. A bat at 15 Baldwin Dr. also tested negative for rabies. On July 24 there was an electrical fire at 722 Route 23. The Health Department was call in because of excessive debris in the downstairs apartment. A Notice of Violation was sent to the downstairs apartment for failure to maintain a dwelling in a clean and sanitary manner, an uninhabitable sign was posted. The bank is in the process of reclaiming the property. A resident of Newman Road was advised to see his doctor after a cat died shortly after biting him. The cat was disposed of and could not be tested for rabies. A truck ruptured a saddle tank while backing into the loading dock and spilled twenty gallons of diesel fuel at Econ Pac. The truck hit a guardrail hidden in the weeds. The DEP was contacted. The tainted soil was removed. The Lake Neepaulin pool tested positive for e-coli on July 14. The pool is tested weekly. Dr. Potter of 54 Central School Road reported a strange acting sheep. The animal was euthanized and tested for rabies. The test came back negative. There was a complaint of a mouse in the A& P. The manager stated the store receives weekly extermination. The extermination company was contacted immediately. Some issues at the new Town Center; a fire pond was installed, the approval was for an underground tank. In another building the septic system was designed for commercial offices not food establishments. To open the Coffee Beanery, a grease trap must be installed and the number of seats in the restaurants needed to be reduced. Apartments planned for the second floor cannot be occupied until the septic is enlarged or connected to a sewer system. NEW BUSINESS The Sussex County Division of Health Office of Public Nursing is hosting a Flu Clinic at the Wantage Township Municipal Building on October 9, 2008, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
