May 28, 2008 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE BOARD OF RECREATION COMMISSIONERS FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF WANTAGE, HELD AT THE WANTAGE TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL BUILDING, ON MAY 28, 2008. CALL TO ORDER: Board President Duane Armstrong called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL: Present: Jennifer Cary, Greg Williams, Duane Armstrong,
Lorraine Care (alternate #1). OPEN PUBLIC MEETING ACT COMPLIANCE Mr. Armstrong stated, “This meeting is being held in compliance
with the provisions of the Open Public meetings Act, Public laws of 1975
Chapter 231. NEW BUSINESS Applications for use of township facilities: High Point Football Mrs. Card made a motion to approve High Point Football; Mrs. Cary seconded the motion for the field time requested. Yes, Carried. Nays: none. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs Feoranzo. First Touch Soccer School Mr. Williams made a motion to approve First Touch Soccer School; Mrs. Card seconded the motion for the field time requested. Ayes, Mrs. Cary, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Card. Nays: None. Abstain: Mr. Armstrong. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs Feoranzo. High Point Soccer Club Mrs. Card made a motion to approve High Point Soccer Club; Mr. Williams seconded the motion for the field time requested. Ayes: Mrs. Cary, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Card. Nays: None. Abstain: Mr. Armstrong. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo. The Recreation Commission received an e-mail from a resident requesting
the commission to revisit the ‘no bicycles’ rule on the trail
at Woodbourne Park. The date for the Talent Show will be June 10, 2008. The date for the Little Miss, Little Mister and Miss Wantage contest will be June 14, 2008. OLD BUSINESS Dog ParkMr. Baker brought the commission up to date on what has been happening at the Wantage Dog Park.
Mr. Baker requested permission from the commission to install a sign at the back gate stating it is an emergency exit only and dogs must be leashed beyond this point. Mr. Baker is not comfortable locking the gate because the park is without access to water except for a stream beyond the gate. Mr. Baker feels this stream could be lifesaving during the summer if a dog becomes overheated. The commission agreed to the sign. Veterans Memorial Field The commission decided that Woodbourne Park is a better location for the Memorial. Mr. Armstrong made a motion to change the location to Woodbourne Park. Mrs. Cary seconded the motion. Yes: carried. Nays: None. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo. The name for the Lott Road Park will be determined by a contest in September. The winner of the contest will get to light the Christmas Tree. A motion to change the name to Woodbourne Veterans Memorial Park was made by Mrs. Card, seconded by Mr. Williams. Ayes: Carried. Nays: None. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo. Mr. Williams notified the commission of the Veterans Memorial e-mail
address: APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Mr. Armstrong made the motion to approve the minutes of March 26, 2008. Mr. Williams seconded the motion. Ayes: Mrs. Card, Mr. Armstrong. Nays: None. Absent: Mrs. Baig, Mrs. Feoranzo. Abstain: Mrs. Cary, Mrs. Card. OPEN PUBLIC SESSION: Mr. Pfeil from High Point Football arrived late and wanted to make sure the field time was approved. Mr. Pfeil discussed with the Commission the possibility of building a new football field at Woodbourne Park with funds from High Point Football. Mrs. McBride suggested speaking with Mr. Doherty about available land. Mr. Pfeil also discussed the possibility of having a bonfire at Woodbourne Park. The Commission did not have a problem with it but said to make sure the proper permits are secured. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Mrs. Card and seconded by Mr. Armstrong to adjourn.
