Consolidation
Study — The Original
A Consolidation
Study for Wantage and Sussex was completed once before, back in 1973.
Although much of the statistics and information from that report is
now 35 years outdated, the report is available for those who would
like to review the history of the Consolidation topic. Click
here to download the 1973 study. (PDF format,

Mountainview
Youth Correctional Facility Closed
The
New Jersey Department of Corrections has closed the Mountainview
Youth Correctional Facility's Stokes unit on Route 650 in Montague,
in Stokes State Forest, as a budgetary cost-saving measure. The inmates
housed at the Stokes unit have been transferred to other correctional
facilities in the state.
A number of residents have contacted the Wantage municipal offices,
requesting that they be informed if or when the Wantage Town Hall is
notified of a prisoner escape from Stokes State Forest Mountainview
Youth Correctional Facility. Unless you request otherwise, Wantage
Township will retain your e-mail address for future reference, in case
the State of New Jersey ever decides to re-open the Correctional Facility
at Stokes in the future. If that ever does happen, Wantage Township
will endeavor to re-establish the e-mail notification system with the
NJ Department of Corrections.

Report
that introduces the topic of Consolidation to the Wantage Township
public.
Consolidation" means that two or more towns combine into a new, single town.
Please see the report,
which explains the reasons why Wantage Township will be exploring the possibility
of consolidating with other municipalities. This is a big issue and a complicated
process. Not all answers will be known before the study is completed. If you
have questions about this issue after reading the report, please contact us at:
jim@wantagetwp-nj.org. If we can answer your questions, we will do so. If you
ask any questions whose answers are not known, we will address the question(s)
when the study is done. Thank you! - The Mayor and Committee of Wantage Township.

Emergency
— Evacuation Plan for Wantage Township
Wantage Emergency Management Coordinator Joe Konopinski and the Mayor and
Committee of Wantage Township have issued instructions on what Wantage residents
should do in an Emergency or Evacuation. The Emergency
Plan represents a detailed information packet, which should be reviewed
and understood before an emergency happens.
To be prepared for an actual emergency, residents may wish to keep the one-page
summary sheet readily available as a quick reference. Put it on a bulletin
board; attach it to your refrigerator, or keep it handy in a place you will
be able to find it if needed."
