Construction of Bridge X-09 over the Papakating Creek has been completed and County Route 565 re-opened to traffic on Friday, June 14, 2019. The bridge had been closed to traffic for nearly a year during the reconstruction. The project originally had a six-month timeline calling for completion by December 2018. While the bridge was out of service, motorists were required to detour around Sussex by way of Loomis Avenue. Residents will once again be able cut down the time involved in traveling between Route 565 and Route 23. A ribbon cutting ceremony opening the new bridge was held at 10 a.m.
